Following the recent article published in Eastern Eye on 15 July 2021, the Society of Asian Lawyers would like to hear from you if you have applied for a role as a Judge but been unsuccessful:
We already know that if you are from a global majority (previously labelled BAME) then you are two and a half times less likely to be successful than white colleagues. We believe the number of successful solicitors from a global majority background to be even lower, especially when you consider ‘secret soundings’ that are being used in the process.
It is likely that these secret soundings will have a disproportionately negative impact on solicitors from a global majority background.Â
If you have applied for a judicial role and have been unsuccessful, particularly if you are a solicitor, then we would like to hear from you urgently.Â
Discrimination is unacceptable in all forms and we hope to investigate this further with the help of an Eastern Eye journalist who is already doing some great work in this area. All contributions will be anonymous.Â
