About Young Citizens:
Young Citizens is a citizenship education charity that informs, equips and inspires children and young people across the UK to be active citizens.
Corporate Partnerships
Young citizens work with corporate partners, including law firms to utilise professionals’ unique expertise to help young people build vital employability skills for the future. They work with law firms in a variety of ways including volunteering programmes, bespoke projects and fundraising.
Young Citizens run a number of legal programmes including:
- Mock Trials (applications are currently open for students to apply);
- Legal Workshops
- Legal Experts in Schools
- Court in Action
- The Big Legal Lesson; and
- Smart Law.
Mock Trials
The Bar Mock Trial Competition helps young people understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives, gaining an insight into how the legal justice system works.
Schools will be given access to resources, including specially written criminal cases, to help teams prepare legal arguments. After preparation, the teams will take part in a regional heat and go head-to-head with other schools to prosecute and defend the cases. Winning teams will then compete in a National Final.
Schools can find out more information about Mock Trials and apply to take part here.
The Big Legal Lesson
From the youngest students at primary school to post-16 students (from KS1 to KS5) The Big Legal Lesson provides teachers with the tools they need to confidently introduce the law into their classrooms. This initiative is sponsored by Mishcon de Reya and the resources are provided to Schools for free. Find out more information.
Smart Law
Smart Law provides a unique range of classroom resources and active citizenship experiences to help young people understand their legal rights and responsibilities. Find out more here.
