The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in Law (https://diversityandinclusioninlaw.com) is a website for Legal Professionals and firms interested in Equality Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I).
We refer to ourselves as “EDI in Law”. We provide news, information, resources and events. Lawyers and Legal Professionals can sign up to become a member of our community by subscribing to our mailing list.

EDI in Law has a legitimate interest in collecting, storing and processing the personal data of members in order to keep them informed of our activities and interests and to share news and updates with them.
In addition to this EDI in Law may in specific situations, collect and process your data with your consent.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it
EDI in Law collects your personal data when you sign up to become a member through the website, by email, social media, by joining our mailing list or by registering for an event. All this information is provided voluntarily.
We may also use your data that is publicly available online for the purposes of furthering the interests of the community.
Mailchimp and Membership
When you sign up to become a member we collect the following data from members:
- First Name
- Surname
- Email Address
We collect this information to contact you and provide you with information about EDI in Law and details of our activities, blog articles, news and resources and events.
We may also from time to time request additional information in relation to your stage of study/work, your geographical location and your place of work/study to help tailor our services and the information or resources that we send to you. This information will also help us to ensure that you qualify for members and to better understand the diversity of our membership.
We will seek to minimise the information we ask for to that which is needed to perform the relevant function or service at the time.
Events
When you sign up to attend one of our events we will collect your name and address and will use this information to contact you about the event and share relevant information about the event and other events that you may be interested in.
We may also request additional information if it is relevant to the event in relation to your stage of study/work, your geographical location and your place of work/study to help tailor our services and the information or resources that we send to you.
Mentoring
When you sign up to attend one of our mentoring schemes we will collect your name and address and will use this information to contact you about the event and share relevant information about the event and other events that you may be interested in.
We may also request additional information if it is relevant to the event in relation to your stage of study/work, your geographical location and your place of work/study to help tailor our services and the information or resources that we send to you.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms
If you use one of the Contact Forms on our website, this information will be proceeds by WordPress and an email to us and will also be retained on our WordPress account.
Further, if you contact us, we may also keep a record of that correspondence.

Website Accounts (Contributors only)

Who we share your data with
Events
EDI in Law may share your contact details with third parties when you sign up for an event. Details of the third parties will be provided when you sign up for the relevant event.
We often link to third-party events, this policy does not apply to those other events so we encourage you to read the privacy statements for the third-party events and websites. We cannot be responsible for the privacy policies and practices of other websites even if you access them using links that we provide.
Mentoring
When you sign up to attend one of our mentoring schemes we will share your contact details and additional information with your mentor/mentee after we have obtained your consent.
How long we retain your data
Mailing List and Membership
Your contact details will be retained for as long as you are a member. You can terminate your membership at any time by sending us an email at info@diversityandinclusioninlaw.com or by unsubscribing from our mailing list by clicking the unsubscribe button at the bottom of all our email correspondence.
EDI in Law will not hold any personal data longer than necessary. Your personal data will be deleted within thirty days of the end of your membership.
Comments
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Website Accounts (Contributors only)
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Comments and Website Accounts (WordPress)
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Please note on occasion, the information you provide to us may be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). By way of example, this may happen where any of our servers or those of our third-party service providers are from time to time located in a country outside of the EEA. How we protect your data
EDI in Law protects your data by ensuring that only people with a legitimate interest in processing your data have access to it. All our email accounts and documents containing personal details are password protected.
EDI in Law will not hold any personal data longer than necessary. Your personal data will be deleted within thirty days of the end of your membership.
Your data will not be shared with other organisations without your consent unless specified in our privacy notice.
What rights you have over your data
You have a right to request:
- Access to the personal data that we hold about you;
- Correction of your personal data when incorrect, out of date or incomplete;
- That your data be deleted.
Please bear in mind when making requests that the EDI in Law committee is formed entirely of volunteers. We will endeavour to process any requests within thirty days.
Changes to this Policy
We may review this policy from time to time and any changes will be notified to you by posting an updated version on our website. We recommend you regularly check for changes and review this policy whenever you visit our website. If you do not agree with any aspect of the updated policy you must immediately notify us and cease using our services.
