This week I got asked the question – why is diversity in the workplace important? This is such a shockingly broad question that I stumbled over giving a proper answer to this question. But afterwards, I decided to think about it in a bit more detail and jot down some opinions/thoughts on why diversity in the workplace is important:
- Diversity in the workplace gives you access to a greater range of talent, creativity, experience, knowledge and ideas.
- Diversity in the workplace generates diverse viewpoints and can lead to new and exciting ideas. Diversity in ideas can give firms a competitive business edge.
- A diverse workforce is a true representation of society and the client that firms offer their services. It helps provide insight into the needs and motivations of all of your client or customer base, rather than just a small part of it.
- Diversity in the workplace allows employees to feel comfortable being themselves at work.
