Young Citizens initiative Legal Experts in Schools partners law firms, barrister chambers and in-house legal teams with a local school to provide legal professionals with the opportunity to volunteer in the classroom.

The programme aims to help young people understand the UK legal system, to increase their access to the legal profession and to develop vital employability skills, such as analytical and critical thinking.

Over the course of six, 1-hour sessions legal professionals volunteer with small groups of students, aged 13-15, using specially created resources, to facilitate discussion and debate around engaging topics like the laws surrounding artificial intelligence and social media. By taking part in the programme, not only do young people gain an understanding of the law and how it relates to their lives, but working in small groups with the volunteers raises their aspirations as they learn more about the legal profession and the world of work.
