Domestic Abuse is everyone’s business and as employers we all have a responsibility to support our colleagues. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnicity or ability. It is regardless of income, class or status, immigration status, sexual orientation or health issues; including pregnancy.
Other colleagues may find themselves involved in Domestic Abuse situations; they may be questioned about the victim’s whereabouts or find themselves trying to protect the victim and fear for their own safety. Furthermore, colleagues may not know how to help or be aware of a workplace policy or procedure. All employers have a duty of care and health and safety laws ensure workers have the right to work in a safe environment where risks to health and well-being are considered and dealt with efficiently.
Ending Domestic Abuse is everyone’s responsibility. As an employer, you can play a vital role by creating a working environment in which every employee feels confident and safe to seek or offer support with Domestic Abuse.
