About the Programme:
Target Oxbridge is a free programme that aims to help Black African and Caribbean students and students of mixed race with Black African and Caribbean heritage increase their chances of getting into the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge (known collectively as Oxbridge). Since launching in 2012, Target Oxbridge has helped over 350 students to secure Oxbridge offers.
The Target Oxbridge Year 10 programme provides students of Black African and Caribbean heritage in Year 10 and Year 11 with an insight into life as an Oxbridge student and how to prepare to make an Oxbridge application. It also provides students with an insight into the A Level subject combinations that will enable them to study the subjects they are interested in at university.
The programme consists of four online webinars in Year 10, taking place once a month between April and July. Students are then invited to join two further webinars in Year 11.
Students will have the chance to hear from Black Oxford and Cambridge students and graduates, the Target Oxbridge team and the Oxford and Cambridge Outreach and Admissions teams. The webinars will cover:
- What Oxbridge is really like and what tutors are looking for in applicants;
- How to prepare for an Oxbridge application;
- How degree subject choice can affect career options;
- A mini lecture followed by a Q&A session with an Oxbridge tutor;
- Advice on how to develop subject knowledge through super-curricular activities;
- Revision Tips for Year 11 students.
At the end of the programme, students will be given information on how to apply for the Year 12 programme. Students will need to submit a new application to be considered for the Year 12 programme.
How to Apply
The programme is open to UK-based state school students in Year 10 who identify as Black African and Caribbean, or mixed race with Black heritage. Applicants should be predicted at least three GCSEs at grade 7, or have the potential to achieve these grades but be in need of additional motivation and inspiration.
Applications for the Target Oxbridge Year 10 Programme open in early January each year and close in February/March each year. The application will specify the exact deadline.
